  • V1.00.74 bug- SU textures not applied in VfSU

Apologies if this has been brought up before, but I created a fresh SU file for testing out VfSU V1.00.74 consisting of a bunch of cubes (just groups, not components) with different materials applied to them, all of which appear correctly in VfSU's Material Editor with correct preview images, but when I render it out, all the cubes are rendered with the same material. I realise that by exploding all the cubes and rendering again the materials display correctly, but I can't possibly do that with existing skp/VfSU models.

OK, I searched around here a bit and have come across a few mentions that textures should be directly applied to geometry rather than groups.

I saw a reply a few months ago from one the ASGvis team which implied that SU was very inconsistent in "telling" VfSU what changes had been made to geometry or UV mapping, but I still don't understand why this would affect VfSU so badly when SU can export 3DS and OBJ format models without much fuss.... and in a fraction of the time.

I thought it was time to give SR1 another try, but these parse times are unworkable: a large model that took about 3 minutes to parse in VfSU v.1.00 takes over 20 minutes in SR1. 20+ minutes just to start a render to see if geometry or texture mapping has rendered properly and yet SU can export out 3ds or obj files in less than 2 minutes? Naturally a VfSU export contains more info- camera position, FOV, date, time, location, etc, but can this really justify a parse time twenty times higher than standard 3D file formats or ten times that of the previous version? IMO this Service Release cannot be used professionally as it causes more problems than it solves.

I don't suppose there's any way (without purchasing external software) to make VfSU import and process 3ds or obj fies?

Sorry to be so negative all the time, but I convinced my employer to purchase 2 VfSU licenses on the basis of how impressed I was with v.1.00 (in spite of its little bugs which were pretty easy to workaround) and now the SR1 update has made my time much less productive and me having to explain why I'm not getting any work done.

In the original release I noticed that allot of geometry applied to groups and components would greatly increase parse time.

I'm not sure what you mean, do you mean having a lot of geometry in groups and components? I have all my geometry in groups or components.

...or did you mean "textures applied to groups" rather than "geometry"?
