  • V1.05.02 Bug- Random materials lose textures and streaks appeared

Just come across this bug, I've been working on this model for a week and saved dozens of test renders out of it with no problems. Suddenly (even though I was only working on the geometry of the building and all textures were displaying correctly in SU, see first screenshot) the road and pavement materials lost their texture maps (or diffuse maps if you like). The texture map images were still visible in the SU material editor, but when I looked for them in the VfSU material editor they led back to My Documents instead of the correct textures folder on my HD. I haven't made any changes to my folders lately. After re-assigning the texture maps they rendered properly again. Anyone know why this would happen?

Also (and perhaps even more bafflingly) I underlined in red some brown streaks (not skidmarks haha) which appeared on the road (even after fixing the texture maps). I noticed that during the IM passes there was a very high density of samples along a diagonal line which coincides with these brown streaks (screenshot below). I've checked the skp file, all layers are on, no hidden geometry or section planes, I have absolutely no idea why VfSU is placing that dense stripe of samples across the road like this.

The missing textures (materials really) are most likely an issue with group/component modification and not getting the correct information from SU. This has always been a problem, and we've been trying to get around it. We haven't seen to many issues with this in the SRs (both 1 and 1.5) but a few have been trickling in. Typically, doing an additional modification on the group/component (like exploding and regrouping, or reapplying materials) gets things back to normal.

As to the second issue, I think there's most likely a geometry issue along that edge. Maybe an extra thin face that's slightly overlapping or probably facing backwards. The IR process may sample that with more detail because the normal changes rapidly, or the proximity thing is really thrown off.

      Thanks Damien,

That's the crazy thing- the road is completely flat. I've even "saved as" the model, deleted all the buildings, trees and people so there's only the road and topography left, then I exploded and regrouped everything. I deleted all layers apart from Layer 0, switched on "hidden geometry", ran "fix problems" from SU's model info menu (none found), saved again and reopened the skp file.... I am as certain as I can be that there is no weird geometry along that line and yet VfSU's IM pass still shows this stripe of dense samples... really strange. I can email you the skp file if you have time to look at it.
