  • displacement problem

I do not know where to post this problem ... I do not think is a bug in the software but the user!

I'm becoming crazy with the displacement map for the roofs ... someone could help me?
I created a material suitable for my needs but, since you get "strange" results are returned to a material downloaded from the website: "PortugueserRoofing" but here too strange effect!
It seems that the effect of undulating tiles is dimensioned unlike the actual displacement map (the one attached to mateiale)
Moreover, (but I do not think this is the reason) to get a preview of the material have acceptable (and this for all the displacement maps that I have so far created) climb the intensity of texture (usually 0.01 - 0.05) and set displacement amount to 77 ...

    Who you know why?

for now enclosed material here ...

... then I put on the site!

    Re: displacement problem

After hours of trying, perhaps, I resolved ... still some doubts (many) on the management of displacement (mostly in options)

    I lowered Edge Length (pix) 1 ... the first was a 4 ...

    now works ...

some benefactor could link to a tutorial on how to set parameters for displacement?

    Edge Length (pix)
    Max subdivis
    Amount

    but mainly
    Relative to bbox
    View-dependent
    Tight Bounds

      Re: displacement problem

I'll take a look at this closer, but for now, here's a few answers

      1. Don't take the material preview at face value. Its not at the scale of your object, and your camera/view will affect what is a useful displacement value.

      2. Edge Length will dictate the fineness of the mesh. The lower the edge length, the more smooth a mesh will be. Max SubDs play a part, but not nearly as much as Edge Length

      3. If you want ANY info about ANY V-Ray setting, then the first place you should go is Spot3d.com. It has every V-Ray setting with a description of what it does. Its extremely useful, so it should be a resource you should keep close at hand.

      4. You don't need a tutorial for those parameters because they all pretty much do nothing. Its not that they're not important, its that its not important to change any of them beyond Edge Length (which I explained above).

I'll get back to you with more after I take a look at your material.
