  • Vray 1.05.30 is delaying every move I make in SU 6.4.112

    Hi,

I have been working on the same model since september - quite flawlessly.
Then from december Vray causes my computer to pause and calculate for 30 seconds when using ordinary SU-tools like opening a Group or Component.

It is not the model size that changed!
It is not SU that works slowly! (i have another SU6 without Vray and the model works fine)

Something in my drawing is allergic to vray and causes delay.
And i cannot figure out what it is!!!

    Thank you for your help!

(i am not sure if the reason is that i installed the latest Vray around the same time)

There were significant changes to the way V-Ray worked within the SketchUp environment made with SR 1 (version 1.00.74). If you had the original build installed before you installed SR 1.5, then you might be seeing the affects of some of changes that were made.

Components and Groups were causing a lot of problems with the original version (geometry/materials disappearing) so now we record all the changes that are made to the components because SketchUp wasn't reliably telling us about them. Things work best when you don't have a lot of nested components/groups. Having components inside of components really causes V-Ray to do a lot of work, so that might be what your seeing.

I had a problem where SU lagged for every action I did. Turns out that my problem was that some of the SU materials referred to textures that was located on a network location that wasn't availible any more.

You can see if you suffer from the same problem.
Get the plugin I wrote here: http://download.thomthom.net/3d/sket...xture_probe.rb

After you install it you find a "Texture Probe" menu item under "Plugins".

Open the Ruby Console and then try the 'List Textures in Console' command. If you see any file paths that refer to network locations, and those locations are unreachable you probably stumbled into the same problem as me.

      BACKUP BEFORE PROCEEDING!

You can then run the 'Unlink Network Paths' command and see if that resolve matters.
Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

Thanks for your quick and kind replies.

I am still very much in trouble.

When I got back to work today i deleted some old materials (and their links) and the model worked fine for half a day.

Now, all of a sudden, after having exchanged some bitmaps in the vray-material-menu the same problems reoccurred...

I will try what you have suggested, i did not yet have the time to do it properly.

Thanks and if there is more anybody can tell me i very much appreciate it.

Well i had the same problem. After working with a file for a week and everything was running smoothly, after a test render it started lagging for no apparent reason.
It turned out that the hardware acceleration in the system preferences panel of sketchup was disabled by itself (swear to gods I didn't touch it!)
          Did you check that out?

If you don't mind, I'll take it out in a neck rub, it's killing me atm.

                Karamouza,

This is exactly what i was talking about.

Your reply has definitely helped me out.
Unbelievable that the hardware acceleration disables itself just like that.
Not to mention the impact of that one switch on how the programme runs or NOT!

What a great comment. I am very grateful.

                Cheers
