  • [Solved] Render Texture Loss

I came across a serious Bug/issue were almost all of my textures became half grey in the render output.

Here's some information that might help track the problem:
    • I have the latest VfSU release 1.5 and SU 7.
    • When I look at the material at the vray material editor, it's checks out as the correct texture image is applied (and even f I re-apply). The preview window shows grey material.
    • I've tried to explode the model (thought it might be a data failure).
    • I reinstalled VfSU.
    • Tried different v-ray options (including default)
    • I used "remove c&g materials" plugin few times.

P.s – This problem started right at the finish (including materials) of this model.

Re: Render Texture Loss [Bug Report]

Does the render window report any errors when loading the bitmaps?

Have the diffuse material turned into a Blend map? (happen automatically if you colourize the texture in the SU material window)
Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

No, no error windows shows up.

All material's type remains only bitmap (no blend). And i never change the color via SU, i always use PS for that.

it looks like V-ray refuses to show/load the textures/images, even though it shows as if it's applied when i do preview (no meter where) it shows grey, like in the image i attached earlier. But SU shows all textures fine.

I meant in the render window that appear when you render. The one full with text. It'll say something that "Loading wossname.png - " followed by "Success" or "Failed".

Re: Render Texture Loss [Bug Report]

I've come across this bug a few times, but as far as I remember I fixed it quickly by applying the diffuse bitmap via the VfSU Material Editor rather than via the SU Material Editor.

VfSU's bitmap path recognition/recollection definitely has a few gremlins IMO.

          Hope this helps,

Re: Render Texture Loss [Bug Report]

I've seen this bug as well, and I'm not sure to attribute it the texture information not being retrieved (ie no Texture Coordinates) or whether the material as a whole is somehow not being read correctly. I'm leaning slightly towards the first just because most of the time, the general color of the materials seams to come through. Either way, I would suggest that you reassemble the material in a brand new one, reapply that to the object in question (the actual geometry is better, not the group/component), then readjust the mapping if need be.

Oh, I checked that and it does show error. Look:
Bitmap file "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ASGvis\Temp\2_stone-42_diffuse.JPG1" failed to load: error in file format
Bitmap file "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ASGvis\Temp\Rail_A_.jpg1" failed to load: error in file format
Bitmap file "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ASGvis\Temp\Trees_D.png1" failed to load: error in file format
It looks like vray doesn't recognize image's format... it's weird since it did recognized those same images in this same model before this problem started.

I've tried to reapply the bitmaps via SU and via Vray, same result.
Also I've tried to make new and different material with bitmap, same problem/outcome.
It appears as vray refuses to acknowledge all of my bitmaps...
Can this be fixed ?? ???

I also have seen texture information not being retrieved, but it was a "C&G" material applied problem.
But In this case the information not being retrieved starts at the material editor, were it shows grey.

I've tried that, unfortunately with no luck. ???

Many thanks guys for trying to help me.
I really hope to get out of this mess before my dead line (which is really close )

EDIT: Just fixed the odd quoting

Re: Render Texture Loss [Bug Report]

For some reason there's a 1 number to the file extensions. "jpg1" and "png1". V-Ray might use the extension name to determine the type of image format instead of actually looking at the file. Is the image file you load into the material editors named like that, or is that the temp file V-Ray tried to read? Try clearing your temp directory.

Re: Render Texture Loss [Bug Report]

I just ran a quick test and VRay doesn't rename any textures (or more importantly, their file extensions) in the Temp folder on my machine.

                  40th,

Is there some way these textures could have been accidentally renamed on your system?

Yes!!! It worked. I deleted all images from the temp folder and all of my textures was BACK ;D

Thank you Thom, you made my day!

                        Re: [Solved] Render Texture Loss

Help, I am experiencing the same issue. (licensed copy of Vray 1.00.0.47).
I am on Vista, so I deleted all the image files in the Temp file at following locationC:\Users\NAME\AppData\Local\Temp. I believe this is the location where Vray saves the textures.
All my files in the office are corrupted, no textures visible anymore.
I need urgent help to fix this as I can't do my job like that.
So any help is very much appreciated.

                        Thank you in advance,
                        biebel

oo! just relink the materials if you cant recover the deleted files. very tedious though but that is the only way. remember that your bitmap file has those names..
