  • fog color problem

Hello, i'm using sketchup 7 and vray 1.05.30 and i've a problem using fog color for refraction. i put white color for transparency and a fog color. in the preview the color seems to be ok but when i render, the object has no color. i've discovered that it works right if i put only a single object in the scene (for example a cube), and to that object i put fog color. but if to that scene i add another object (with or without the material with fog color) the material with fog color stops working. please help i really can't find a solution and im getting crazy. :'(
    thanks

    Re: fog color problem

To produce fog the material should be applied on a thick object (on each surface and on both sides of each surface) . also the strength of fog depends on the multiplier and on the the thickness of the object.

yes i already now that ;D. but if i put only a cube (for example) with fog color i have no problem and the refraction works alright, but if i add something else (not necesary touching the cube) the fog color stops working. it's really strange what it is hapennig.
      thanks

I am having a similar problem....using SU 8 and V-Ray 1.48.89...where refractive fog does not render with another material in the scene.

Two-objects, same basic glass material w/red fog, default render settings:

Two-objects, one w/ above material and one w/ different material/fog, default render settings:

Any thoughts? Are the objects interacting with each other in a way that messes with the perceived fog multiplier?

I we have a new build 1.49.01, please update. I'm made some test and I found no issue with fog color. Here is how the fog color works. Fog Law, An object who's refraction is exactly 1 unit thick with a multiplier of 1, will end up being the color that was specified.
Unfortunately our material preview sphere is 30" of diameter, so you will always see a darker result in the material preview.

Is NOT correct to use WHITE on the refraction transparency slot. This will make the refraction layer 100% transparency, so you will not have any refraction at all.
For example if you have a blue refraction color and you use 100% white on the refraction layer transparency, you will erase or hide the refraction layer. thus you will only see the reflection layer on the render and no effect produced by the refraction layer.
The transparency is to add transparency to the whole layer. Like opasity in photoshop.

              Re: fog color problem

Thanks for your prompt response. I am confused because the fog works when used alone in a scene, but doesn't work (using the same settings) when there is another material/object in the scene. I understand that refractive fog is related to the materials' depth...but increasing the fog value with respect to the two objects doesn't change anything...

This seems inconsistent....what am I missing? Also- apparently the demo version is not the current build...

You can download the new build here. I guess could be a bug in the old build
