SketchUp stalls only on Vray machines. Unable to model, only render

Hi guys,

I have a major issue that I can no longer use sketchUp on the computers i have vray installed on.

The problem is that everything i do causes sketchup to stall for 1/2 - 1 minute, an example is say when i double click on a component to edit it, just doing that will cause this stall. Or if i make a single change to a material property within the vray materialseditor it causes the same thing to happen. So basically i try to do 1 action in either sketchUp or vray, and they both stall for 1/2 - 1 minute.
We have 2 machines that have vray on them in the office, and this occurs on both, but the model has no problems being used on machines that dont have vray. arghhh

But, Vray renders fine just as normal, it is just that i can now no longer work on my computer using sketchUp.

My machine is the most spec'd of all the machines in the office, and i have never had any memory or processing problems, but this has just happened since I updated sketchUp the other day. The IT guys at work thought that i had downloaded a virus, but since the file acts the same way on the other vray machine, then they have ruled this out.

Basically i am asking if anyone else has had this problem.

I think that my model may be corrupt in some way, because i can only replicate it with that particular model, so this might be a the problem.

If anyone can shed some light on this it would be great.

If you can only do this with this one model it is defiantly something in that model, I would start with a material purge to see if the issue still occurs.

but this has just happened since I updated sketchUp the other day

So what version are you using now, and what version were you using before?

Hi guys,

After fluffing around all weekend trying to fix it( i even reinstalled an old version of sketchUp). I have fixed the problem.
It was a corrupt material, or link. The model was from another one of our offices, and the material in questions was one of theirs. I have always purge my materials, but this material was in use throughout the model, and i only stumbled across the problem whn i copied one item to a new file, and it worked fine, then i copied another with the material in question, and it began to have the stalling issues. I have since gone back through the old models and deleted the material form the sketchUp material editor manually and the hey presto the file is now fine.

The strange part is that this is the first time in 2 years that this has happened, and it did coincide with the update of sketchUp to 7.1 M2.

anyways it was a bit of an over reaction, but with quite tight deadlines i was panicing a bit.

I had this exact same SU stalling problem in a couple of SU files when I updated to SU7.1, was never able to diagnose which material was causing the problem as making almost any changes to any number of materials in the file (including using asset collection) "fixed" the bug. I couldn't even send Google or ASGvis corrupt file for testing as as soon as it was packed up for zipping it would work again. It was very frustrating, I had to revert to SU 7.0 which has completely screwed my SU installs up (I had SU6 and SU7.0 installed, then SU6 and SU7.1, then tried to get back to SU6 and SU7.0, but I had to uninstall SU6 and manually create new SU version program file folders to get SU7.0 working. My registry is now garbage when it comes to SU- my PC thinks SU7.1 isn't installed any more.... but it is... alongside SU7.0 :)

We don't use the registry anymore in our wip, lol. So hopefully your registry issues will be behind you soon Jackson. We also will have an extra tool for use under our Debug menu that will fix nasty issues like this with one click. I'm glad to hear you were able to get back up and running though!

This is a silly suggestion but could possibly be a reason. Check your SkechUp autosave intervals, if you are using a large file and it is auto-saving every few minutes then it can really get in the way of modeling.
