  • blue screen code d1

    hello,

    i work with a 64bit vista system, core i7 and radeon 4800, use skp-vray.
when i start a render that's (quite) complicated 50% of the times it crashes my comuter after a while!
very annoying of course. the blue screen code i get is d1. (only last time bcc was 50).

does anyone knows what this means, what soft- or hardware part may be the problem?
    thanks a lot,
    rolf.

(I filled some of it out for you already)

Blue screen codes won't help solve this problem at all. My first guess is that you're running out of memory, to check this, try watching the sketchup process's memory usage in the windows task manager. If you see the memory usage climb up to about 2gb, and then you get a bluescreen, or the program crashes, you're running out of memory for that process. If you still have this issue, and the memory usage stays safely below 2gb, or even 1.5gb for that matter, then there is something else going on, and I can't really think of what it could be. If you're using the latest version, there may be an error log with some clues about what is going on.

running out of memory doesn't blue-screen the computer, does it? Isn't this an indication of an hardware problem perhaps? Stress on the system during rendering, CPU overheating? Bad memory modules?
Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

If you run out of memory, and the program crashes, it may behave unexpectedly. ::shrugs:: Ya never know.

          hello there,

          thanks for the tips.
i also checked on the blue screen codes and someone found out an realtek-update, eset security and deamon software could be the problem. removed all but unfortunately that wasn't the problem after all.
in a new render i watched my memory, and it was stable for a while at 2.2gb (6gb in my computer), but all of a sudden death again, new bc-code this time (a).

so still no clue what's the problem.. is it possible 'uberhaupt' (ehhh: by any chance) to make big renders with v-ray-skecthup? (i use the 1.48.66 vray and 7.1.6860 skp pro 7)
is there a maximum of data that the programs can handle?

          Thanks again,
          greeting from Holland!

VfSU runs inside Sketchup - which is a 32bit application. ~2Gb is the limit a 32bit app can handle.

There is a method to render large renders: http://software.asgvis.com/index.php...=16&Itemid=437

                  32 bit..
Windows generated two type of program files, normal and with (x86) behind it. Sketch-up pro 7 is in the (x86) section. Is it maybe better to install it in the other map because of the 32 bit or... ? and thanks for the large render tip. i see it's written for rhino, but the same elements are in sketch-up as well i think.. gonna try that.

i have 64 bits and it works fine...
tarjeta madre means: mother card, but that is just the literal traslation, i really don't know how to say it in english :P

                      Re: blue screen code d1

MOOO18- the ProgramFiles(x86) is where old 32 bit apps are installed to. Don't move it... the app is still 32bit... Moving what folder a program is in has NO EFFECT on the code used to create the program. If the program wasn't written to be 64-bit... it's never going to be a 64-bit application, unless the developers of that application specifically write it as a 64-bit application.

That being said, SketchUp is a 32-bit application (yell at Google if you don't like it), so it's limited to 2gb of memory, unless you use the /3GB switch (or hack SketchUp, which completely unsupported, and can make it behave unexpectedly). Even then, you're still limited to 3gb of ram per 32-bit process. There won't be a fix for this until Google makes their application 64-bit. There are some tricks to optimizing a scene so it can sneak in under that 2gb limit, but the memory limit isn't going to go away.

ARQESTEVEZ1 - In English you would say "Motherboard"

So is the cap at 1.5~2.0GB? And that's the end of the story? Is this what leads to my problem where it looks like 7 of my 8 buckets get stuck, and never finishes my final prepass? My usage tops out around 1.5 when that happens, it's sooooo close but doesn't start rendering.

Can we ask Google, pretty please to release a 64-bit Sketchup, I would even be willing to pay for it. In fact, that would actually give me a reason to pay for it, otherwise there is so little benefit for Sketchup Pro!

Sure, go for it! The more people that bug them about this, the higher it will be on their priority list.

Hard to say, there have been a number of bugs that have been fixed in the latest beta. Review the change log to see if there's anything specifically related to what you're doing in this case. (The change log is listed in the thread where you can download the latest beta version). The progress window was slowing things down quite a bit in some cases, so it's possible that this issue has been fixed with the latest changes (we temporarily took out the progress window).
