  • Mirror reflecting everything BUT the floor!

    Anyone got a clue??

also, I am using some fake IES lights (Im at version 1.05.30) with opacity maps to let the light through. As you can see, there are several IES lights casting the correct soft smooth shadows... but some others are casting very hard shadows/highlights. Cant understand why its happening.

Is Max Reflection/Refraction adjusted high enough?
Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

      max reflection/refraction?

where do i adjust that? In the Global Switches>Reflection/Refraction>Max Depth?? Its set to 5. I never messed with this setting. Dont even know what it does.

anyway some other things bugging me in this scene:

        - light leaking on the last step of the stair. Even though I set the Irradiance Map to -3 +1
        - the stupid red luminaire, which is faceted, even though I selected it 10 times already and softed its edges to 45
        - the glass in that decoration. It looks like its blue... it shouldnt. I applied a transparent glass material to it thousands of times, reverted the faces another thousand of times, applied glass material another thousand of times. Doesnt matter where I applied the glass material or what faces are outside, it always show that weird "back face blue"

          FIRST PROBLEM SOLVED!!

The backface of the floor was inverted! Thats why it wasnt reflecting. Is there another way to discover WHICH side you are seeing, besides painting the face with the "default color"?

You can enable "Reflect on Backside" on the material editor on the "Option" section.

              I am missing something here.

its "reflect ON the backside" or "reflect THE backside"??? Maybe I am not understanding why the backside of the floor isnt reflecting on the mirror. Because the backside of the floor WAS reflecting light, but wasnt reflecting on the mirror.

There is an option on the material called "reflect on Backside". If this option is disable, no matter that you apply the mirror material on both face of the geometry you will get a black render on the back face. If this option is enable you will get the reflection on the back face.
This option is located under the "Option" section inside the material editor.

This controls how many times a ray is traced trough surfaces. If you have for instance 2 sheets of glass overlapping, the light will enter a surface, exit, enter and exit, you then need at least 4 as max reflections. I tend to set the max reflection to 1+ the number of times the rays need to bounce.
