  • copy-paste problem and batch render problem

    Hi everyone,

I'm currently using sketchup 2015 wth Vray for sketchup 2015 on Mac OS (10.9.5) and I'm experiencing a couple of problems:

    1) When I try to copy-paste elements from one drawing to another, I always receive a bug-splat. I think this has to do with the materials I've appointed to the elements because if I clean the element from al its bitmaps en reflections etc, it sometimes works.
When I save an element as a separate drawing and then import it in the sketchup drawing I'm working on, it usually works too.
    2) I cannot work in a sketchup drawing when another sketchup drawing is active too. Well..., I can, but when I do, sketchup gets mental... When two drawings are active and I want to change something in the materials editor, sketchup shows the material editor from the other drawing... Not only that: When I try to render a scene in one drawing, vray renderen a scene from the other drawing wich I'm NOT working on.
    3) I'm not able produce a batch render succesfully. When I use batch render, the scene's are rendered but without the .JPG's I've imported in the drawing. The JPG's I've used within the materials DO however render successfully. Just not the images I've imported in the scene. (for example: A PNG tree with a 'always follow camera' function.)

If anyone can give me some tips I'd be much appreciated!

    Kind regards,

    Hi Geert,

Because of the way Sketchup shares memory space on a Mac this happens all too often, and its a Sketchup issue that we cant do anything about. You can add more ram so you don't crash as easily when you have two windows open. But the best recommendation I can give is to work in only a single Sketchup file at a time, jumping back and forth causes a lot of problems, and there's not a lot that can be done about it on our side of things. I will say this is not an issue on the Windows side, but its always a good idea to close any unnecessary Sketchup windows when you are not using them. As far as the batch render is concerned, please email support and add Attn: Ted Vitale to the ticket, Ill get that taken care of through the support channels.
    Best,

      Hi Ted,
Thanks you for your reply. I've send an email to vraysketchup@chaosgroup.com regarding the batch render problem.
Regarding the ram addition: My mac already runs with 16 GB ram. In my case, I don't think adding more ram would solve problems...
Do you think the copy-paste problems also has to do with opening two drawings at once?

      Kind regards,

It may be related, but I'm not entirely sure. we will be looking into it more in the future.

Another way is to install the V-Ray Tools from Thomthom (you can find it in the Extension Warehouse). This way you can load V-ray after you have done the modeling. So V-ray isn't loaded when you start Sketchup and you can model and copy/paste without problems (at least that's my experience).
After everything is modelled you can load Vray and render away. Sketchup and Vray don't always play nice together, especially with materials. (Again my experience). I hope Chaosgroup will come soon with Vray 3 that will solve a lot of performance issues...
