  • Sky models at night time render pitch black.

Hi everybody, I am playing with the demo for Vray 3.4 for sketchup and would like to know a thing. In Vray 2.0 I used to use the Preetam et al. sky model for quick night renders, because I had results similar to what you can see in the attached image.

Playing around with the settings in 3.4 I noticed that regardless of the sky model used, at night time the sky is pitch black. Is this a bug or is there a new way to have the same result?

    Hello,

Sky texture being pitch black while the sun position is deep below the horizon line is expected behavior.
As a workaround, I suggest turning off the SunLight from the Lights list and then lowering the Setting > Environment > Background intensity to a low value: for example 0.01 if time of day is set to noon, feel free to experiment with the values.

    Kind regards,
    Peter
