  • GPU rendering materials problem

    Hi,
I have a problem when trying to render with GPU acceleration. When rendering with the CPU, all the materials come out ok:

but when rendering using the GPU, many materials appear wrong/missing:

The GPU is a GTX 1080 Ti with the latest drivers installed. I have also tried using resized and full sized textures, no effect.
The link to the skp file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/qllb7rshzy...stein.skp?dl=0
    Can anyone assist?

    Thanks!
    Eran

    Hello, Yulia,

For some reason I am unable to see the screenshots you attached.
Although we stumbled on another issue with your scene, we were not able to reproduce difference in material render results which you mentioned.

Could you please try rendering your scene once more using CPU and then CUDA, and share each of the progress logs with us?
Also, make sure you are using the latest V-Ray version: 3.40.04.

    Kind regards,
    Peter

Thanks for your response. I added a link to my dropbox dir that includes the scene file, as well as the gpu + cpu screenshots and renders. I am using the latest version of V-Ray. Also, I'll be glad if you can let me know what the problem you found in my scene was.

Thank you for providing all this! Our developers will investigate it and we'll get back to you.
The issue I was referring was abnormal GPU memory usage when rendering this scene in CUDA.

        Kind regards,
        Peter

            Hello again,
Please open your project, then the Ruby console (Window > Ruby Console) and paste there the contents of this file paste_this_in_ruby_console.txt .
After this is done, you should be able to render the scene properly in both CPU or CUDA.

            Kind regards,
            Peter

              Hi again,
I pasted the contents of the file in the Ruby console, and I got the following error:
              Error: #<ArgumentError: Block expected>
              <main>:7:in `grep'
              <main>:7:in `block in <main>'
              C:/Program Files/Chaos Group/V-Ray/V-Ray 3.4 for SketchUp/extension/ruby/callbacks/callbacks:208:in `without'
              <main>:6:in `<main>'
              SketchUp:1:in `eval'

Also, is this a permanent solution for every scene I have this problem with (I've had several so far)? Or will this be fixed in an upcoming version?
Many thanks for all your help!

Hi, I think I managed to fix the code, in the line with grep i removed the each and it worked ok and looks like it did what it was supposed to (created a "bernstein_Textures" dir and created image files for all the textures). However, it didn't really solve the problem. I created a after_fix dir in the same dropbox directory with the render output as well as the progress window contents.
                Thanks!
                Yulia

It appears that most textures should be showing up, according to the latest progress log.
Will get back to you as soon as our developers find a solution.

                  Kind regards,
                  Peter
