Heres the scenario (As the image below shows)
1. Create a new Surface
2. Create a new generic material in the Vray Editor
3. Go to the diffuse and set the texture to "Mesh.png"
4. Material preview doesnt update (Remains dark grey even though its a seethrough mesh)
5. Apply material with paint bucket tool - material appears fine in viewport (I think thats what its called)
6. Whilst it renders it is the same as the preview in the asset editor.
Second Scenario
1. Create a new Surface
2. Go into surface and select the Face
3. Drag mesh.png file from the desktop onto the surface whilst holding ALT.
4. Asset editor makes a material for it that appears and renders correctly.
5 No noticeable difference between the material settings.
I have uploaded both models and the material below to anyone else that would like to have a go and try explain whats going on ^_^
