  • Water Procedural

I might be missing something here but how to change the coloration in the water procedural? It seems to be defaulted as yellow. That seems odd.

"The Water texture map can be used to generate a procedural water texture. It can be used along with Vector Displacement (other types of displacement will not work) in order to simulate waves on the surface of water."
    https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/VRAYSKETCHUP/Water

So it means that the water procedural texture is a vector displacement map and the colors represents directions.

Here is good explanation what is it http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide...lacement-maps/

This is very insightful. Thank you.

Are we able to use vector displacement in VR4SU?

I ma not sure how it works in SketchUp, but procedural water texture definitely works.

I placed it in the displacement map slot and it seems to be working. Pretty amazing. I assume this animates as well?

            Yup:

I've messed around with it a bit myself - the timing can be hard to nail down, especially with no preview or anything, but neat nonetheless

Konstantin make a tutorial about using WaterTex,It should be assgined in the Bump map slot. so that we can get desired result.

                Hi guys,

The Water texture is used for Vector Displacement in V-Ray in 3ds Max for example.
We still don't support vector displacements in SketchUp but an implementation can be done easily if we determine that it makes sense.
The map can also be used as a bump or standard displacement texture giving you reasonable results (utilizing it's gray-scale values).
As mentioned in a previous post this texture is automatically animated (+ rate/ speed control).

I'll try to put together a video demonstrating the basic use of this texture.

                Regards,
                Konstantin

Have you figured out if a relationship can be established between the movement slider and the default 30 fps that V-Ray renders animations?

I've struggled to get anything other than a flat sheet of water with zero waves with that texture in either the bump or displacement maps slots. Could you please show an example?
