  • Laubwerk Materials

Anyone else think the leaf materials on Laubwerk leaves is a bit weird? I always get very plasticy reflections on some of the leaves even when set to high quality.

Upon further investigation it looks like the leaves are using reflection glossiness set to a reduced value but with reflections turned off in the VRay BRDF material. This seems to cause very blown out reflections on the leaves.

Investigated a little further and in Max, the VRay material is using Reflection glosiness set to .76 where in SketchUp, it has reflections turned off but has Highlight Glossiness set to .76 - It does seem that its the highlight glossiness that's causing the issues with the leaves rendering with a sheen on them. In Max notice that highlight glossiness is set to 1 (which essentially disables it).

I have sent all of this information to Laubwerk but just wanted to make you guys aware if you use their plugin.

Yes, I've definitely noticed this too. The reflection of light off the leaves appear white giving a super glossy appearance.

There is also some issue with Tree bark which looks too plastic too, just looks very shinny, even large area reflects blue color in tree bark which is far from realistic tbh,I can not get reliable close-up shot with laubwerk tree in recent vray build.(BTW,I use the latest version of both Vray and Laubwerk)

They've done the same thing - using highlight glossiness and pure white in the reflection layer. I assume someone converted these from max and something got screwed up in translation,

Thank you for taking care of this. I wonder if we'll need to re install anything to receive the update or if we'll just need to update the Laubwerk SU plugin.

                  hEY mATT,
Thanks for following up on this! That would be great to have these kits be plug-n-play like they're supposed to be. One less thing to trouble shoot from day to day. (every little bit helps)

                  Fake Frank Gehry,
Great question. I imagine it will be an update to the Player to fix this, since there are only models for the 3 variants in their different ages for each species, it seems it would be Laubwerk Player that does all the work to make the different Vray materials. But that is all an just an uneducated guess. Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I get confused...

After reading this topic, i made a test, 0,6 gamma value seems ok to me.. After unchecking linear thing from all materials and maps and activating reflection slider of course..
