  • Matte Material in Vray Next producing strange artifacts

does anyone know why I might be receiving these strange blocky shadows on the vray matte material? would be such a great tool if it can be rendered without this ?

    I assume you are using V-Ray 3.6?
There are a couple of ways to resolve this issue:
    • Add a Shadows render element
      Settings > Render Elements
    • Disable Adaptive Lights
Settings > Raytrace (advanced view) > Optimizations > Adaptive Lights checkbox
This bug is fixed in V-Ray Next.

    Kind regards,

If this is the case, could you please send over the project file for investigation? Please archive it using Extensions > V-Ray > Pack Project and then email it at support@chaosgroup.com and include a link to this forum thread.
Additionally, did you use the CPU or GPU engine when you rendered the images displayed in your previous post?

        Kind regards,
        Peter

The issue is caused by the new Adaptive Dome Light functionality. To avoid the issue when using Matte Wrapper material, please disable the light's "Adaptive" toggle.
A fix will be provided in the first major update for V-Ray Next for SketchUp (v4.1).

          Kind regards,
          Peter
