  • Swarm GPU not working

I have a problem with running Swarm in GPU mode.
When it's on CPU, and Swarm is enabled, my other PC is rendering, but once I choose a GPU as a render engine, vray is rendering only on a host machine, my second PC is not used at all.

    How to solve that?
All latest updates were installed on both PCs (license server, swarm, and vray next).
And no, in swarm config of the second PC, GPU is not disabled.

    Thank you!

    Hi,

Could you please advise what are the full specifications of the computer/s? Please include the full version number of the GPU drivers!

In the meantime, could you create an environment variable and see if this resolves the issue?
    - System Properties > Advanced > Environment Variable > New
    - Variable name: VRAY_OPENCL_PLATFORMS_x64
    - Variable value: c++/cpu;nvidia cuda geforce gtx 980 gpu index0;
(or whatever the GPU model is)

      My Master PC
      CPU: AMD 1950x
      Mobo: Gigabyte Aorus Gaming 7
      RAM: 32Gb Kingstone
GPU: 1x1060 3Gb for monitor, for rendering 2x1070
      PSU: 1200W

      PC2
      CPU: i7 6700k
      Mobo: Asus z170-A
      RAM: 16Gb Kingstone
      GPU: 2x1070

Well, as I can see, on my PC2, when I open sketchup and vray I choose GPU, I can choose between these two GPUs https://i.imgur.com/iihRhOl.png
But, when i go to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Chaos Group\V-Ray for SketchUp and run GPU Device Selection, I don't see CUDA devices at all https://i.imgur.com/0HKb6uD.png

I tried creating a new variable, but it didn't work. I found that same variable on my main PC and copy pasted it to my PC2 (both use 2x1070), but still not working..
I tried using just CPU as c++, to see if it will render it with just a CPU, but still not rendering.
But, again, when I chose CPU as a rendering engine, it works...

            Hi,

Did you solve this issue ? How can I check when rendering GPU or CPU + GPU other render slaves are utilised ? By render times I see that they are but only cutting render times by 20% In comparison with CPU and a substantial decrease in render times. One thing to note on the topic of render slaves and GPU is the fact graphic cards are not too strong on those computers.

Additionally when opening Vray Swarm Network in the browser one sees clearly when CPU or Memory is utilised in the slaves, is there a way to check GPU utilisation ?

            Rhino 6
            Vray 3.6
            GTX 1080ti
Intel Xeon CPU E5-1650 3.6GHZ 6 Cores 12 Logical Processors
            64GB RAM

            Thanx !

                Hello, Jarek88 ,
GPU utilization cannot be tracked via the Swarm web interface. Currently, the only available info is the number of viable GPUs.
If you encounter any problems while using V-Ray Swarm, please reach out to support@chaosgroup.com for assistance. Be sure to mention in your email the version numbers of V-Ray and Swarm you are using.

                Kind regards,
                Peter
