  • Unable to use V-Ray because server cannot be reached

Is it normal for the Chaos License Server to be offline? I have been trying to use V-Ray for hours but all I get is the message attached. Is there a way around it?

Download this build since you have an EDU license - https://download.chaosgroup.com/down...2019-40001-edu
Make sure when installing V-Ray to install also the license server. It can be downloaded from https://download.chaosgroup.com/license-server
After that Navigate in your browser to http://localhost:30304 and log in with your username - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...tup-Activation
Restart Sketchup and try to render.

Thanks for you reply. My problem was solved by installing the License Server (I did this before reading your reply). Everything is working now.

A question: should I install the EDU license anyway? And on top of the other or should I uninstall the ADV first? In this case, how? -- NORMAL -- -- NORMAL --

The EDU builds use educational licensing, the ADV ones use commercial licenses. If V-Ray is working currently - you don't have to change builds. Also - when writing on the forum I make educated guesses based on the e-mails a forum user is registered with - I guess you must have another user with ADV licenses.

First of all, I thank you for your help. Please keep making those guesses. I do own an educational license but I probably misunderstood the instructions sent me by the vendor (who told me to download the EDU version) and installed the ADV one instead. But it seems the installation system was more intelligent than me and everything is working fine. I have downloaded the files you suggested and, if needed, will reinstall V-Ray EDU.

The problem that made me ask for help occurred immediately after I updated Sketchup 2019. Could the update have caused a problem with the license server?

          Best regards. -- NORMAL --

It might have been it. It's possible that a reinstall has stopped the license server's service (VRLService in Windows). In similar cases, you can check the status page of the license server - http://localhost:30304 on the local machine. If the license server is running it should load.
If you have any issues you can also message us here, since some sensitive data like username is best to be avoided in forum posts.
