  • How to change a diffuse color in Vray?

    Hello everyone, I have attached a quick pic and a question I have regarding changing a diffuse color in vray? I have a dresser i built in sketchup and want to add a different wood color. I downloaded a poliigon wood texture I like and called it WOOD TRIM. I liked the wood texture but not the color. I changed the RGB values in sketchup as well as Vray but when I go to render it, the color change does not work, and just defaults back to the original poliigon color? Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

    Thanks sooo much!!

    Hello Jay,

    If you are using V-Ray Next for Sketchup Update 1, all you have to do is:
    1- click on 'Extentions' menu on top of the SU window;
    2- click on 'V-Ray';
    3- click on 'Tools';
    4- click on 'Colorize Textures (Experimental)' to enable this feature;

    After that, you should see your color corrections applyed in SU material editor show up correctly in your renders.

    *Note that the material preview of the v-ray asset manager will not change, but you should see the changes when rendering.

    Other thing is that, if you have a texture in the diffuse slot, changing the diffuse color won't affect your texture.

    Best regards,

    Caetano

      Hello, Jay,
      Caetano described the workflow perfectly.
      Please keep in mind that the colorization support in V-Ray for SketchUp is still a work in progress as its label suggests.

      Another method to achieve the same effect is via the V-Ray Asset Editor. Slot the Diffuse Bitmap texture within a Color correction texture (or alternatively, Bezier Curve or Spline color correction textures). This generally provides greater control over the texture output. Here's a demo: https://youtu.be/CiLClh2OshY?t=426 (at 07:06).
      Note that color-correcting a texture in V-Ray cannot be directly previewed in the SketchUp viewport.
