  • Vray 4.2 for sketchup - Scaling predefined Vray materials

How do you size the preset materials in the Vray materials library that are locked in the sketch up material palette editor.
Also can anyone point me in the right direction for a decent tutorial on Vray material Blend and multi material? Many thanks in advance YM

    Hello yellow mustard

Please see the attached screenshot regarding the size adjustment of the preset materials from the library.
As for the Blend material, please check the following video at around 3:50 https://vimeo.com/230467502 .
Finally, for the Multi Material, the following video shows how that material can be utilized to apply different materials based on face IDs for instances such as the shading of proxies. https://vimeo.com/230564848

The provided videos are made with V-Ray 3, however the principles remain the same. Please let me know if the information above was helpful to you.

Hi Zahari thanks for this apologies if i wasn't clear. I am aware of this way of scaling how ever in some of the predefined materials (EG WallPaint_FineGrain_01_white_1m ) this option is locked.... If you could advise further that would be great. Thanks in advance yellow mustard

        Hi yellow mustard,

The reason why the scaling option is disabled is because the material does not have a color texture assigned.

The easiest solution for this in V-Ray is:
        - Select the material in the Asset Editor
        - Navigate to its Binding options
        - Change the Texture Mode to Texture Helper

This will ensure that a placeholder texture is added to the SU material allowing you to change the scale.
The checker will not be rendered - it's used for viewport guide only.

There are 3 alternatives to this:
        1. Add a texture to the material Diffuse slot and disable the texture checkbox. This will show the map in the viewport while rendering a flat color.
        2. Repeat the steps from the original suggestion but this time choose Custom mode. A new texture slot will appear where you can add a custom viewport map.
        3. Disable the Binding/Texture Mode toggle all together and load any texture in the SU material.

        Hope that helps,
        Konstantin
