  • Animation Scenes Not Transitioning Correctly

I have a sketchup model with multiple scenes. I want to create an animation that just transitions from scene to scene. No objects need to move.

In sketchup the animation is set to enable screen transitions
All scenes are set to include in animation.
When I play animation within sketchup, it runs through the scenes fine.
In VRay, the animation is set to Entire Animation

However, the only scene that transitions is the first to the second. From the images being exported, it seems to have gone back to the the first scene rather than the third. The reason I say this is because I am using layers and the scene movement is identical for all scenes , For example, scene movement in scene one is the same as scene movement in scene 3 and scene movement in scene 2 is the same as scene movement in scene 4. The only difference is in the layers so that an object that exists in scene 1 is replaced by a different object in scene 3. This works perfectly fine in a sketchup animation test, however when processing in vray, either it goes back to scene one again or the layer attributes do not work so the same object is being viewed again.

Should layers work with vray animations and if so, what am I doing wrong?

    Thanks

It has been rendering for many hours.

    Hi blueman26,

The only two things that can currently be animated in V-Ray for SketchUp are the camera position and the sun/shadows.
Object and tag visibility will not work.
They are taken into account only when you do a batch render.

Adding support for object visibility animations is in fact possible.
Keep in mind that it'll behave the same way as the animation preview in SU - objects will pop in and out of existence.

    Regards,
    Konstantin

Thanks. The only movement I have is camera position from scene to scene, so that should work. Can you clarify what you mean by "tag Visibility"? Does that refer to what I'm trying to accomplish, which is to have different objects appear in a cabinet as the camera moves around the cabinet from scene to scene. Each scene has a different object which is assigned to that layer. I assume this is what you mean by tagging?

Keep in mind that it'll behave the same way as the animation preview in SU - objects will pop in and out of existence.

This is what I want, but you are saying that this can only be done once you add support for this within V-ray or are you saying it's possible now through batch rendering? If so, how would I create camera movement by batch rendering two separate scenes?

      Thanks again for your help

In Sketchup 2020 they renamed 'Layers' to 'Tags'.....and is how you control object visibility in scenes. The 'renaming' was this year's huge addition to Sketchup and the big reason to buy another year of Maintenance & Support.

Ok, it looks like I cannot do what I wanted to until that feature's added to V-ray. Maybe I can work around this by rendering the individual scenes containing the layers I want separately and then splicing them together in a separate video editing program.
