  • 'Use 3D Mapping' setting from Vray 3.6 - what is translation for this setting in Vray Next ?

    Hello
if someone can help me here - I am working on a material creation tutorial - using Noise B to control a Blend - tutorial is using Vray 3.6 for sketchup - calls for 'Use 3D Mapping' to be engaged as a parameter for Noise B - this setting does not exist in Vray Next for sketchup - can someone explain how to achieve this or what is substitute in Vray Next
thank you very much for your help

    Hello,

Yes, you can use the 3D (Object Space) option located under Texture placement > Type dropdown.

This has the exact same function as the 'Use 3D Mapping' toggle.

      Thank you Slavcho
This was the setting I ended up using as it allowed for the other parameters ( ex. size) to most closely follow those form the tutorial - as there are many settings cumulatively effecting results, it is tough to know what might be causing an unexpected effect sometimes as a beginner - so I thank you for your help to confirm this setting - I will pass this info on

what threw me off my confidence with the '3D( Object Space)' setting is that in my ME preview the texture appears to have a distortion when this setting is chosen ( same with 3D(World Space) - in the tutorial I was following ( vray 3.6) the 3D Mapping setting looks more like your reference above - ie preview does not show this distortion

can u speak to why I am seeing this distortion of the Noise Map in the ME Preview ?

The "distortion" you've noticed is actually the projection of the texture onto a cube. Certain textures that can be projected in 3D space use this preview swatch.
Here are a couple of examples that make the swatch scene appear more distinct:

Ah ha - I feel silly for not having seen that - and I do notice now that some types of textures display in 3D Object space with a more flat 2D map preview - thanks for further explaining this - I hope it helps others as well
