  • Scaling override materials

Hi, I'm wondering if there is a way to scale the selected override material in Vray Sketchup. Changing the texture's scale within sketchup in the usual way does not appear to make any difference to the override render. Only thing I can think of is that the overide adopts the scale of whichever material it is overiding, resulting in a variety of scales across the models surface. Would this be correct? And can it be avoided? Ideally I want to be able to apply a Maquette Wood effect to an already fully textured model such that the Maquette render texture is at a uniform scale of my chosing. Is this possible?
    Thanks,

    James

    Hi james_hogan,

The Override texture scaling is controlled by the original materials scaling and position.
This is the most logical way to do it considering that SketchUp actually changes the object UVs when you position or scale textures.
The Override material's scale itself is ignored.

The only way I can think of for uniform texture scaling in the Override material is using a Tri-Planar texture projection:
    1. Select the material used as Override
    2. Right click on the diffuse texture slot and choose Wrap In
    3. Find the Tri-Planar map and select it
    4. Choose an appropriate scaling value in the Tri-Planar options
    5. Repeat for all the occupied texture slots of the material
    This is the result:

Note that if you set things up this way - the UVs / custom texture positioning will be ignored all together.
The override material will be projected onto the mesh.

    Hope that helps,
    Konstantin
