  • V-Ray Vision VS Frame Buffer

Hello, I am very new to using V-Ray and I was wondering if someone would be able to inform me of the differences between V-Ray Vision and the frame buffer?

    Hi georgia_ash,

V-Ray Vision is a real-time viewer - the engine used is different. Works like a V-Ray Interactive rendering session, but it uses a lightweight 'game engine' so to speak (rasterizer) to visualize a given V-Ray scene, as opposed to a ray-tracer (which is what essentially V-Ray is).
The advantages of Vision are that project changes will be immediately reflected in the Vision viewer but there are still many unsupported V-Ray features and effects. However, sometimes the quality produced is sufficient for a client, which is where it shines.

That being said, as a beginner user it might be better to first get familiar with the core raytracing engine - V-Ray, so you can understand how managing materials, lighting, etc. works. And, of course, you can use Vision at any point, should the produced results satisfy your needs.

We've also made a great introduction video about Vision here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-kn...l=ChaosGroupTV
