  • Distance Tex alternative for VRAY for Sketchup

I am searching for a way to add a faded/wear effect at the side and center of a road in my scene,. The road includes a number of turnings and islands that the wear needs to work around. In VRAY for other software, I can see this is done easily with Distance Tex, but this does not appear to be available in VRAY for SketchUp. Is there any way to replicate this effect with features available in VRAY for Sketchup?

Distance Tex can be seen used with VRAY for 3ds Max in this video from 7:15:

The type of effect I am looking for is:

    I second this question.

Here, for instance, a blend by a falloff starting at a certain distance from the perimeter of a surface could work.

    • Through what exact steps would some such effect best achieved in V-Ray 5 for Sketchup?

Implementation of TexDistance in V-Ray for SketchUp is something our dev team would like to do in one of the upcoming updates.
For now, you can probably achieve similar result by slotting the diffuse texture of the asphalt into a mix(map) utility texture and use a Gradient texture as a mix map. Feel free to experiment with the Gradient map composition as well as noise parameters.
      Here is an example:

Make sure that the Gradient mix map fits the road lane by adjusting its placement in relation to diffuse tex. In the illustrated case, it needs to be 1/6th to match the dimensions:

The same procedure can be done for reflection and bump maps if needed.
      Hope this explanation helps!

      Kind regards,
      Peter

        Hi guys,

Another option for blending shader effects based on an occlusion from nearby objects is using V-Ray Dirt texture.
By default it'll give you a quite smooth faloff gradient but if you pass it through a Spline or Bezier Curve correction you can make the effect more pronounced:
Click image for larger version Name:	Asphalt01.JPG Views:	0 Size:	168.6 KB ID:	1104188

Here I've used the following setup:
        • Mix Map in the material's Diffuse slot
        • The Asphalt texture in the Mix top color
        • The 'weathered' texture/color in the bottom slot
        • Spline Curve correction in the Mix Map slot
        • Dirt map in the Spline Input slot
        • The Radius of the Dirt map was increased and a Value remap was used in the Spline map
        • The Dirt Map Radius parameter was also textured with a noise for variation
The main limitation of this approach is that objects can't be excluded from the effect.
And if you place any other object on the road - the same weathering will surround it.

        Regards,
        Konstantin
