  • 12 Hours Render Time for a 360 render

    Hi,

I just completed a 360 panoramic render which took me almost 12 hours to render. Is this normal? (there's still some noise left in the image, I kept quality settings at high, so noise level of 0.01)
I use the ROG Strix Scar 15 laptop with an RTX 3070 graphic card, 17gb ram, etc.
If I increase the ram memory, will it increase the speed of the renders?

I've attached the model in this post for you to check your own render times. Please do go through it when you get time and share your render times here. It would be interesting to know how fast you rendered the same scene.

    Hi Manish,

Thanks for providing the project files, we're testing it in our environment and will report back to you asap.

      Hi manishpaul_simon,

      To add some updates:
Regarding the noisy areas you're seeing - it seems that the reason behind this is applying higher LightMix values on the overall dark image, make sure you push those 'To Scene', as previously discussed in the following topic.

Regarding the long render hours; we've tested it out on a machine with 24gb RAM and Quadro P6000 (24gb VRAM); it was actually taking 19gb of RAM while rendering and approx. 5gb of VRAM. Given the high settings and large output resolution, this might be expected. It took overall 9 hours on our test, however, we're still going to test a few things out to see if we can improve the situation.

        Hi nikoleta.garkova
Thanks for your response. 9 hours on a high spec system is still too high. Please do let me know if you'll be able to improve render times in future versions.
        Thanks

          Hi manishpaul_simon,

I've modified your file slightly to get better render times.
          Here's what I did:
          1. The exposure of the camera is modified so I don't have to rely on Light Mix so heavily.
          2. I've added a Dome light using the Sky texture. This way V-Ray will bring more direct light in the set and improve sampling. The setup you had was relying 100% on the GI rays to exit the room and sample the Sky. The Dome is sampled in a more optimal way.
          3. There are some additional changes which I don't believe affect the render speed - mostly to do with the ceiling lights...
          Here's the modified model:
          https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RPe...ew?usp=sharing

Here's what I rendered for about 15 minutes on Quadro RTX 5000 (some textures are missing...):
Bathroom_02.zip (excuse me for the JPG compression).

As a whole you should expect long render times with such big images (especially interior projects).
Please try with the model I shared and let me know if it's any better.
I'd also suggest you set the quality to Medium + and see whether it's enough.

          Regards,
          Konstantin

            Hi Konstantin,
Thanks a lot for your research on the same. I have requested permission to the google drive link. Kindly accept the same and I'll test it out on my laptop. Thanks

              Hi Konstantin,
I tested it out in my laptop with the same settings you had in place, which was 1000 x 500, and it took about 7 minutes to render in progressive mode.

                Hi,

I forgot to set the high res before uploading the file.
You can set it to 6K and see how it goes.
If it takes 6 hours, that's still too long.
I'd try one of the Medium quality presets.

                  Having the same problem here.

I'm also doing some VR tours and when i was only using the pc / web / mobile to see them, a 4000 x 2000 resolution was working fine with less rendering times.

But then we started to use VR headsets, that resolution was no good.

So tried the 8000 x 4000 and also got about 9 hours rendering with good bucket settings, the same i used to smaller res images in far less time.

For now i'm trying to use 6000 x 3000 res with 0,02 noise settings

                    Hi fernando_pinheiro,

If you share an example project I can possibly take a look and suggest some scene optimizations.
