  • Vray gpu Chaos cosmos and the new translucency!!!

Hi Konstantin, Muhammed and Nikoleta Garkova

Since the new translucency for vray gpu is coming, what is going to happen for a chaos cosmos vegetation, i use in My gardens a mix from My own trees and plants and vegetation from chaos cosmos which is great, but as You already know we have to merge the components from chaos cosmos to work their materials... So i have to merge every single tree to work the new translucency??? Or every plant??? Or chaos cosmos is already aware about this???, with the new update the chaos cosmos trees already have the new translucency on??? It could be really great if already chaos cosmos vegetation have this option on, i can do that from My own trees they are few, but what is going to happen from chaos cosmos AM i going to merge every tree or every plant to tick translucency and select the Best option?? That could be a Big mess, i like to preserve the original proxy to work as smooth as it should be ( and to avoid vram problems) and Also don't have a Lot of materials in the material editor
    Thanks in advance
    Best regards

    Hi Luis

It is a good question, I will ask about that and let you know.
For me personally I always rework part of the shading on any assets I get depending on the project. Usually it is good practice for artists to take a look at the shading setup and change it to fit their needs
I think not everyone is going to use SSS for their vegetation, again depending on the use case

    Best,
    Muhammed

Couldn't help but see that and wondered if you could expand on merging cosmos proxy so it can be edited. I'd like to be able to change the colours of some parts of certain cosmos models

        Hi Jason,

You can change the color of a Cosmos asset by merging it into the scene. To do so, you'll have to open the Asset Editor and find the asset in the Geometry category. Then right-click and choose "Merge".
This will convert the Cosmos asset to a proxy mesh and you'll be able to edit the materials just like you do for any other proxy mesh.
Keep in mind though, that when you merge the asset you'll break the connection to Cosmos. This means that if you render with V-Ray Vision, the LOD assignment will no longer work, and you'll be able to render the High LOD only.

        Best regards,
