  • Translucency Vray gpu vs time

    Hi Muhammed and Konstantin

Im wonder how fast is the new translucency for vray gpu, i think this is going to be a very Nice effect but with a Big expense of time, almost all the time sss material with cpu, with solid scatter and with refractive scatter is very slow, i don't know but My mind is Telling My thats this new translucency is going to be slow... But how slow??? a Big impact on time o a little bit???

    Thanks in advance
    Best regards

    Hi Luis,

Adding SSS will have an impact on performance for sure, in my testing here it is usually one or 2 more minutes added to render time(2x 3090s)
It is way faster than FastSSS2 and Alsurface, for both interactive and final rendering(and gives much better results). I think you shouldn't worry about performance much in this case, we are actively looking into ways to make Vray GPU as fast as possible
Also considering the visual difference when using the new translucency, it makes a big difference and I'm using it for all my plastics, wood, vegetation..etc
For me personally, quality and realism come first (it doesn't affect performance much thankfully)

This is true before Vray 5.1 ,now everyone uses the new translucency which is quite fast in comparison
And even in the old versions of Vray, many artists care about quality and realism more than performance. Hence Vray scatter volume material was very popular (even if it is very slow)

If you have more questions let me know

    Best,
    Muhammed

      Hi Muhhamed

Thats true...!!! Quality and realism is always the first option Even if takes a little bit of time, i appreciated the effort to make vray gpu translucency to work, thanks
