  • GPU vs CPU "ambiant occlusion" effect

    Hello to all,
here is an example of GPU rendering and the same file in CPU rendering.
I love this "ambient occlusion" effect that is found on the CPU render but that I don't have on the GPU render.
What parameters should I play with to improve this "ambient occlusion" effect with the GPU?

The difference between the 2 images is subtle but it brings an additional realism.

Of course, I know I can add a "Dirt Map" layer, that's not the question.

Thank you.Click image for larger version

    Hey DCHA34

Are you using the AO controls under global illumination settings?
    I discussed this here
This effect is not really physically accurate, and a better way of achieving that is using proper ACES color management.
we are discussing ACES implementation in SketchUp, the team will post about this when there are updates.
There is also a request for AO implementation on GPU, I will add your vote to it

    Best,

      Hi,
to answer your question, I did not use the AO option for the above rendering.

Regarding the integration of AO in GPU and the implementation of ACES Color Management, I vote for it.

      Thank you.

DCHA34 Can you please show me your render setting for the CPU result ?
If you are not using AO to enhance the effect, this difference shouldn't be expected to happen. Also are you on update 2?

Oops. Error on my side, I had the AO option activated.
