  • Skatter from Vray vs Skatter 2 by Lindale

    Hi,

Is there any official tutorial for the new Skatter Feature from Vray?

Also, it feels limited when compared to the features from Lindale's skatter 2. Do you guys have plans to further expand skatter component capabilities on Vray?

    Hi manishpaul_simon ,

This is the only thing we have so far:

    Yes, we do.
Our idea was to give you guys something simple that works for the most common cases and expand on it with future updates.
Actually it would be great if you can list the features which are of high importance to you.
We also have many ideas and they need to be prioritized.

I hope that you still like what we have so far.

    Regards,
    Konstantin

Vray Scatter doesn't work with vray scene files exported from 3ds max and than imported into Sketchup. The problem is that the main vray scene file works well and keeps the material while used in Scatter loses the material and renders in blue colour.

konstantin_chaos is it possible to use vray scatter on top of a plane that has vray fur applied to it?

          Hi, tyler_cox

Currently, you can apply Scatter or Fur but both at the same time. However, you can work around that by coping the plane and offsetting it a little bit, and applying the Scatter on Fur on it.

There is actually a hidden way to dothis:
            1. Add fur to a Group or Component
            2. Create Scatter in the Asset editor
            3. Edit the Group
            4. Find the Scatter component in the SU's components list
            5. Pick and place it inside the Group

We'll look into ways to simplify this workflow.

              Hi Konstantinos
here are some feature requests for the skatter plugin

              1. Exclude certain areas of the hosts by creating masks.

              2. Add multiple skatter objects to a single host.
Right now I'm offsetting the host plane by few mm and then adding other sksttered objects. For examlle, adding trees and grass on to the same host. But it's better to have separate control to the. Skatter 2 has a composition editor feature which works really well.

              3. Adding translation. Rotation and scale randomly is great. But i would also like to translate the coordinates of the geometry randomly. For example, giving different z point coordinates.

              4. Using masks to create pathways and roads and other elements. Masks are a great way to add tire tracks on grass materials, etc. If you guys can create something like this, it would be awesome.

              Looking forward to future updates.

                Hi manishpaul_simon,

                Thank you for the suggestions.
We'll look into all of them and gradually improve our scattering solution.
