  • "Pack Object" Option

    Hello to all of you,
is there a command (or a method) identical to "Pack Project" but for an object?
I know that you can "Save As" a component by right clicking on it, but I would like a "Pack Object" function, which would allow me to save the object and its materials and textures in an archive.

    Is this possible or conceivable?

Just open the object in a new file and go to "Pack_Proyect". As long as you purge it first.

      Hello, DCHA34 ,

      Thank you for your question!
What cajon49 mentioned is correct. Currently packing a portion of an .skp project is only doable using the following steps:
      1. Select the object(s) you wish to pack together with all their necessary assets.
      2. Copy the selection
      3. Open a new SketchUp project and Paste the object(s)
      4. Save the new SketchUp project and then use Extensions > V-Ray > Pack Project
      5. To import the packed .skp project into another one (File > Import) first the archive will need to be extracted at the location of the host project .skp file.
Otherwise, the asset file paths of the imported project will not be auto-resolved. Alternatively, you'll need to use the V-Ray File Path Editor after each such .skp import.

I logged your feature request. It will require both infrastructure and interface changes and will be pending evaluation in the following weeks.

      Kind regards,
      Peter

This is the method I use today.
To be even more efficient I have 2 sessions of Sketchup open, one that contains my complete scene and the other that will be used to open the saved object.
But, depending on the complexity of the models, this requires quite a lot of resources and Sketchup is not the best when it comes to managing multiple opened sessions.

I thought that a little "right click" on the component and "Pack Object" was not a bad function.

          Hi DCHA34,

I thought that a little "right click" on the component and "Pack Object" was not a bad function.
I'll log this as a feature request and we'll see if it can be done in a clean way.

          Thank you for the suggestion,
          Konstantin
