  • Vray mix operator and vray curvature

    Hi
I Have a question some time ago, the mix operator texture is great, but for example in a dirt concrete should i use the concrete texture in slot A or it should be in texture B, and about the dirt texture ( i already bought some from 3d collective Adán Martin they are great) should it be in texture A or texture B.

I use multiply A*B for the operator, the results are very interesting!!! You get a very Nice grunge dirt texture, Also i hope in the future we can manage 3 or 4 textures, right now You can only use 2 texture.

In another part vray curvature needs a really new update, i use vray dirt texture as a render element to give a better look for the renders, the other day i tried to play with this and i didnt get to work is very confusing ( vray curvature)since there are a lot of options that i don't understand, in vray for Maya with a new hotfix or a new update vray curvature has convex and concave options, vray for sketchup should have this option too since in the real World this happens the edges get washed out, i really hope we can see an improvement in this texture, if we can play with it like we play with dirt texture that is very easy this is going to be great.

    Thanks

    Best regards

    Hello luisgamino2

If you are using A*B it really doesn't matter which texture is A and which is B. However in general I would suggest using the A texture as the “base” texture(in this case for the concrete) and for the B texture the effect I would like to add(in this case the Dirt texture).
Regarding the option to mix more than 2 textures - this can be achieved by mixing multiple Mix utility textures. Of course, this is not really convenient, but at the moment I don't think it is possible to mix more than 2 textures with a single utility texture.
I can add that as a feature request. Would it be possible to give me more details for the specific workflow or the desired result so I can add this to the request as well? Additionally, it would help a lot if you attach a reference image of the desired result.
In respect to the additional parameters present in V-Ray for Maya, I guess that they just are not requested and this is why they are not present. Please give me a reference for this as well and I will try to figure out a workaround or another workflow with the same result.

      Hi,

I just logged this - to expose the Mode Curvature parameter in V-Ray for SketchUp - WEBUI-6091
You'll probably see it in one of the next updates.

Thank you for bringing our attention to this,
      Konstantin

        Hi slavcho.brusev

I believe You can achieve almost the same results with vray for sketchup than vray for 3d max and maya.

I would like to play more with this tool, since in real life nothing is perfect. If You want a real realism You have to play with dirt textures.

I can use Photoshop to play with some textures, for example scratches textures and dust texture combine to get a better dirt effects.

But in vray for sketchup You can only use just one texture, i would like to play with it!!! Use more than 2 textures and play with it so You can a achieve a really dirt texture.

As slate material with 3d max and maya when You connect and connect with nodes a Lot of textures, i don't want slate material for vray for sketchup ( for me, but probably some vray users want this Workflow, if You decide to bring nodes and connect like 3d max, please make it as easy as it can be)i think vray for sketchup is so smooth and fast to use, and probably the slate material is going to make harder to use, since vray for sketchup has never uses nodes. ( I'm very happy with the interface of vray 5 for sketchup since vray 3 the interface of the software is smooth, stetic, clear and fast and i hope stays the same way

Vray mix map operator is the same that vray 3... Needs an update, since is a very poor option to play with textures, i would like to make My own dirt texture with vray for sketchup, connect and disconnect a bunch of textures, there is a blend material i already know.

If You know the software and You have a plenty hardware why should i stay like this... I would like to play with a Lot of textures.

Vray mix operator is great!!! but should be a Lot more powerfull. Vray for sketchup is for proffesionals!!! Not to play like begginers

        Thanks

I guess you can use the standard layered material for this purpose.
Create the concrete base material and then add on top of it Diffuse layers with mask(the mask being the dirt texture). You can add multiple diffuse layers corresponding to the different dirt maps.

            Hi slavcho brusev

I had never used that button in all My life, in what kind of circunstances do You use this Botton?? as You already know for dirt textures You have to use same maps for reflection and bump map, so this works as it should be.

I'm going to try later this option and probably blend material can achieve a very interesting effects
            Thanks

              Hi slavcho brusev
I did some experiments yestarday and i found very interesting this diffuse coat, You can achieve the same that vray mix map operator, and Also You can achieve probably a better dirt texture with mix map operator and then bring another dirt texture with diffuse coat.

              Nice advice thanks!!!
