  • Is it possible to let CPU calculate the Light Cache on CUDA & RTX engine?

    Hello! My PC is i9-9900K + 2 x 3080Ti.
I found that the GPUs calculate light cache much slower than the CPU. Does it seem that only one GPU will be used to calculate the light cache?
Is it possible to let the CPU calculate the Light Cache on CUDA & RTX engine by default? (modify a configuration file or something?)

    Thanks!

    Hi hill_lam

As other people is posting about this subject... What is going to happend with vray gpu light cache, i don't use update 2 since it takes a Lot of vram, Also some people complain about speed since it should be faster than cpu, i would like too to use update 2 with vray gpu light cache calculated with cpu and not with gpu.

If it is impossible to change that when do You think we are going to enjoy vray gpu light cache with gpu, as solid as it is with 3d max and maya, i think this feature is working Nice with Maya and 3d max.

And this is very important Konstantin, Peter and Muhhamed we need a really fix for this, we are at some point when we have to choose update 5.1 very stable and 5.2 new features but doesnt work right and is very unstable.

Please don't bring update 3 or vray 6 with this problems, we need a really solid fix for this issues and not a hotfixes that doesnt resolve anything.

    Thanks

Hi hill_lam Thanks for the report,

There is an issue related to rendering resolution and performance of GPU LC, our developers are looking into this now
So this behavior is not expected to happen, specially if you are using a bigger resolution

The performance of GPU LC is meant to be better/faster than the CPU version. And to answer your question about calculating GPU LC on CPU, it is not possible anymore
GPU LC is the way moving forward for V-Ray GPU, it is evolving with every new update with performance and memory optimizations. I will let you know when there are more updates on this issue

      Best,
      Muhammed
