  • Light Calculation Limits

Every day I learn something new with Vray, without being formally educated with this great software. As it goes though, in my line of work, lighting is crucial. I currently have a model in Sketchup that has over 200 lights in it. I created one master light (4 LED lights) formed as one mesh light, then made into a component. I did it this way, to perhaps help reduce the calculation load with vray, but I suspect that it doesn't matter since the model will take well over an hour to render. What I need to know is whether or not, the way I created the lighting is correct, and that the render time is just the way it goes with Vray, or there is a more efficient way. The image below is an example of what I am going for, though it is only a fraction what I am trying to achieve.

So like the title of my post suggests, does Vray have a limit in how many lights it calculates for lighting? With that, is there a way to reduce the amount of render load time? Any helpful tips would be appreciated.

    Hi,

You don't need to worry about numerous lights in your scene, there is an option(that is enabled by default) that takes care of this. This is the Adaptive Lights option(https://docs.chaos.com/display/VSKET...-Optimizations) and no matter how many lights you have in your project the calculations will be optimized when it is enabled.

If the render time needs to be decreased in general, I suppose the best thing to do is to lower the Quality slider and enable the Denoiser.
Lowering the Quality slider will result in a noisier image, however, the Denoiser will take care of the noise, resulting in high quality and quicker render times.

There are multiple denoising options, try them and see what will work best for your workflow.

      Hi james_morvay1,

Can you share the scene so that we can test it on our side?
It is hard to say if your lighting setup is optimal based on the description alone.
It is unclear to me where the light sources are in the scene.

      Regards,
      Konstantin
