  • Distance Texture

    Hi,
can someone explain to me with visual examples what the Inside and Outside Separate parameters of the distance texture are for?
Another question, I saw in some V-Ray for Rhino videos that the distance texture works even if the object is hidden.
I can't reproduce this with V-Ray for Sketchup.

    Hello DCHA34,
can someone explain to me with visual examples what the Inside and Outside Separate parameters of the distance texture are for?
Here are examples with the Distance texture used in the Density slot of V-Ray Fur. I used some Rocks from Cosmos Browser as objects for Distance texture and applied transparent material to them so that the changes are more visible.

Inside Separate – When enabled, the Near Color is overridden by the Inside Color value for points that are inside the specified geometry.
Outside Separate – When enabled, the Near Color value is overridden by the Outside Color value for points that are outside the specified geometry.
By changing these settings you can control where to generate V-Ray Fur like in this case.

I have tested hiding objects with Hide command in Rhino and by hiding layer, but was not able to reproduce it. If possible please share how exactly it was done.

But you can add Raytrace Properties to the material of the objects to make them invisible to the camera etc.

        Hi Natalia,
thanks for all these screenshots. I understand the options better.
Concerning the rendering of the hidden objects, I rewatched the video and indeed there is a no-render material applied on the object.
        Thanks again.
