  • Meta Quest VR playback

    Hi friends,

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but I was wondering: are there any plans of having compatibility with Meta Quest VR headsets? It would be great to see the renders in VR.

I've seen this very (older) way of working, but that seems very limited:

But I can imagine something like v-ray vision being used? I couldn't find any info on it.

    thanks in advance,

    Maarten

    Hello, Maarten,
V-Ray for SketchUp is able to produce panoramic stereo imagery for VR in any image standard (cubemaps / spherical panorama with stereo output side-by-side / top-bottom).
Here are the output controls in the Asset Editor's Settings panel:

To view your renders in VR, simply load the image files using your headset's default image viewing app or a 3rd-party viewing app of your choice.

If you meant viewing your interactive render output directly from the VFB, there is currently no such option in V-Ray for SketchUp, nor there is one being planned.
The intent of VR render output so far has been aimed solely at production rendering.
Further VR support will likely be part of the development of Chaos Cloud Collaboration (currently in Beta).

On a side note, Chaos Cloud itself also has a VR view mode itself.

Can you share more details about the way you wish to use your Meta Quest VR headset with V-Ray?

hi Peter.Chaushev, thanks so much for the reply. Indeed I figured this out in the meantime! The trouble is that since I am on a Mac I had to use a roundabout way (side quest) to get my images on there.

So I've uploaded several trials with spherical panorama and Cubemap.

      About the panorama ones:
      • They seem quite pixelated, even though I've used a 4320 x 2160 resolution. What file type and resolution would work best?
      • There's quite some distortion in the images, although it improves when I use the stereo option. What's the best viewpoint and what camera field of view would be best to choose in Sketchup?
      About the Cubemap VR ones:
      • Using your exact settings I can't get those to work, no matter what display mode I choose in the apps I mentioned. If I put it on 2d I just get a cantered i9mage showing all the cubes and in 3d they become extremely distorted. I'm I missing something? Is there a certain app you could recommend to view them?
      Thanks in advance!

maarten_vis I also use Skp and Meta headsets in a mixed Mac/Win environment. I've not found a viewer to date that works with cubemaps unfortunately. They used to work back in the Oculus Go days on the Oculus 360 viewer app (now defunct). We recently were trying the Chaos Cloud VR Preview option Peter mentioned, but had a similar experience and just ended up with a very distorted output.

The best luck we've had with 360 panoramas or 360 stereoscopic panoramas has been with the cheap Pigasus app (https://www.meta.com/experiences/2436667223120459/). It can take a stereoscopic panorama and display it with depth (we're having troubles with a shrinking scale of our models when we do so) or display it as a plain 360 panorama. The versatility is nice.
