  • Plotting Sphere Lights in Displacement

    Hi All,

    I work for a company that manufactures fibre optic carpets. One of our suppliers has provided us with the attached sample of carpet. It is essentially just a carpet with waves rippling through it. We are looking to run fibre optic points through the low points of the carpet and I need to make a digital visualisation of this to help sell to clients.

    I can currently make the displacement required using the tools available in V-Ray but I am trying to find a way to plot sphere lights along the low points of the carpet whilst keeping them matched up with the displacement map.

    Of course this is very difficult as the displacement map doesn't directly alter the mesh of the object I am trying to scatter my points of light onto. I think I can devise a way of doing this IF I am able to export the marble texture that I have made using V-Ray (attached). I have tried saving it as a .vrmat file but it doesn't export the marble texture at all.

    Apologies if this is difficult to understand but any help is greatly appreciated.
