If you right-click on the Sketchup.exe (or the shortcut you use) and go to Properties-Compatibility then enable "Run this program with compatibility for:" and choose XP.

              Hi,

I have Windows Vista and I am evaluating Vray for SketchUp. It works for me.

It doesn't work on Vista because in SketchUp OPEN GL settings are set to Hardware Acceleration. If you disable this option it should work without any problems.

A trick that works if you can't get into SketchUp right now: Set your Windows display settings to 16 bits instead of 32 bits. SketchUp will automatically uncheck this 'Hardware Acceleration' option. Try opening SketchUp now, it should work.

Once you are in SketchUp you can set back your display settings to 32 bits and you can check back again the 'Hardware Acceleration' option, but always remember to uncheck it before exiting SketchUp. Otherwise you would have to set again your display settings at 16 bits, etc...

Anyway I hope this works for you.

              Regards,

                Re: Problem with windows vista

Very important tip: UPDATE YOUR VIDEO DRIVERS.
As Vista has some 'general' problems with video cards (Where are those service packs ?) you should regularly check if there aren't updates for your graphical card.
This can fix trouble with all kinds of software. And yes, opengl remains a buggy thing in Vista, so no tangling with that .

                  Re: Problem with windows vista

                  hi woods and biebel.

I did what you said, but it still doesn't work.

                  here's the scenario:
I was able to install it on a vista compatible sketch-up from the beginning.
But when i open my sketch-up, it says: Error Loading File VRayForSketchup.rb
                  998: Invalid access to memory location. - C:/Program Files/Google/Google SketchUp 6/Plugins/VRayForSketchUp/VRayForSketchUp.so
So, i tried moving the "VRayForSketchup.rb" FILE to the "C:/Program Files/Google/Google SketchUp 6/Plugins/VRayForSketchUp" FOLDER.
BY DOING THIS, I was able to eliminate the error.
BUT., the Vray tools/toolbox doesn't appear anywhere. I can't find it even in the toolbox menu or whatsoever.
Would you know how to fix this? THANKS ALOT GUYS. hope we can make it work.

                    Re: Problem with windows vista

I believe you need to run it in XP SP2 compatible mode. Even if Sketchup is Vista-ready, we're not and I would guess that is what the issue is. Moving the plugin to another folder just made it so it was no longer being loaded.
                    Best regards,

You mean i have to reinstall my sketchup in Win XP SP2 compatibility mode?
btw, is there a target date for a vista compatible release of the vray plug-in for sketch-up?

No you won't have to reinstall it. Simply go into the properties (right-click on the icon and there should be an option for properties) and in one of the tabs is the option to run the program in compatability mode. XP should be an option.

I'm hoping we can get it Vista ready for the next service release. That should be around the end of summer to fall if all goes to plan.
