    Hi!
I've got some questions about distributed rendering:
1.I have to install SU+Vray on slave computers. Then start renderslave.exe. Right? If so, will it work with free version of SU?
    2. I had no luck in name\IP adress ( not subnet mask or default gateway- correct?) insertion: the part of adress is
in the first field (of name)
A small post with instructions would help alot.
Sorry for dumb questions- I'm just an arcitect. It's diagnosis
    Thanks in advance

I just sorted it out on my configiration. So there might be mistakes unaware in my answers.

    1. The DRSpawner.exe(renderslave.exe) is a pretty independent programm that I think you only need to copy it to the servers and run. For the free version sketchup, I don't think it will ban you from using DR, as it doesn't have the authority to do so.

Just in case, the path of the executive is here
    C:\Program Files\ASGvis\Render slave

    2. not quite follow your question, what do you want? I guess the DR needs to work within a local network.

We have a discussion here, it may cover the problems in the future you'll meet. Don't miss it.

I know it is going to be time taking in the intial settings, but once you've done so, what you get is twice or even more speed of rendering, that can well compensate the time it took.

BTW, to check the IP address of one computer, the fast way is

    Start-->Run-->type:"cmd"-->type:"ipconfig -all"

      Thank you for reply.
Finally I've got my slave machine working (unfortunatly with bitmap
issue). What I tried to ask is HOW and WHAT I have to insert in DR settings dialog. DR is working if it set just like in line 1 (see attached image) but it looks wrong.
      Thaks in advance for explanation

        Re: DR

I'm sorry - you just need to insert one or the other. Either put the hostname (usually the computer name), OR the IP to it. Not both. Sorry for the confusion. Also - if you want to test if the number/name is valid. Click the "Resolve Host" button - if it resolves to an IP number then you should be good to go.

Also - with the newest release you shouldn't have the bitmap issue anymore. If you are still experiencing it - make sure "Asset collection" is enabled in the System Tab (where the other DR settings are ). This will send all assets to each slave by default - or you can specify a globally accessible folder to have your textures automatically placed into. Let me know if you are still having problems.

Joe gaves the clear pattern on the server name question. Srry for my terrible understanding.

And the bitmap issue I can say is solved with a manner close to perfection from the new release(1.00).

Under the "Enable asset collection", you can have flexible ways of texture sharing. "Send to each node" will free you from any extra settings that it transfer textures automatically. This is great for someone don't want to cause any IT troubles. ;D
The other setting is kind of traditional solution that place all textures in a shared folder. It may help the situation that many works for the same project and need there texture resource consistent. I don't have much experience in it.

well, hope you can find your way and let DR save some of your time.

          Nice day
