Well its kind of a plane that extends out infinitely. I don't really know how else to explain it...it pretty self-explanatory on its own. There are reasons why its easier/better to use that then a really big plane (loading geometry, plane edges), but that doesn't really change what it does.

People generally just use it as a ground-plane for their scenes
