  • light effects in vray

    hi to all!
recently my "boss" saw this picture (the abu dhaby museum, project by nouvel) and he told me "i want those light effects".

The boss likes the "volume lights" (the rays of light) and the lights projected on the floor. I've never worked on a render like this: for the volume lights i've founded a photoshop plugin. any ideas or tutorial to get those effects?
    thanks!

Some of that can be achieved by reflective / refractive caustics ( the speckles of light on the walls, etc ). The "volume light", however, would need some kind of a participating medium (like fog or something). I'm not sure how to accomplish that effect in VfS. Perhaps post-process work in photoshop would be the only way? Maybe Damien has some ideas?

Well there aren't any caustics in the scene, just some really wild and crazy shadows from the pattern on the ceiling. As for the volume light effect, there is no support for that in vfSU. In vfMax volume lights can be created, but its through some of the native lighting features in max. I don't know if Vlado intends to add some vray specific support for volume lights, but it could be a possibility.

Even though volume lights aren't supported, creating that affect is very easy. Photoshop is the easiest place to do it, and you can just select the region that you want the volume affect to be and either brighten it, desaturate it, and another layer (white) with transparency. There's a number of options so you can make it happen if you want.
