  • DR - same rendernode for two spawners?

    We have one PC with Viz+VRay, with a quad processor rendernode doing the bulk of the DR work.

    We'd now like to run several PCs with VRay for SketchUp, and have them use the same rendernode for DR.

    I've got DR working but only if on the rendernode I stop the Viz spawner then start the SK spawner.

    Is there any way to have the two spawners both running and waiting for work? I wouldn't mind if only one could actually do a DR at a time, but I don't want my users to be fiddling about with the rendernode every time they want to set a render going.

    All ideas welcome!

    Unfortunately I don't believe so. There are some conflicts between our spawner and the ChaosGroup one, so it is not possible. It will work between Rhino and SketchUp, but not with Max/Vis.

      We brought this issue up with Chaos Group - the issue is all of the V-Ray SDK DR stuff is running on the same ports so whichever spawner gets started first monopolizes the port and chokes the other one out. I'd imagine this shouldn't be too hard for CG to fix - just a matter of time.

        Thanks for your replies.

        We've been evaluating V-Ray for SketchUp and are very interested in multiple licences - but we'd find it very difficult to justify if we have to buy another rendernode and have two expensive boxes lying idle too much of the time :

        Can I do anything to help the two V-Rays co-exist sooner? Who could I talk to?

          I will contact Vlado from Chaos Group and see what the timeline for the remedy is. I would imagine this shouldn't be too big of a problem to resolve - but you can never be sure.
