  • How do I get rid of this "grainy" affect that the light casts?

I cast a light into a room and the light on the floor shows a "grainy" affect. Is there a setting in my render that I should fix to have the light have a more natural look and suttle feel? Any help would be much appreciated!!

    Thank-you!!

right now i have a similar problem. it is a Vray rectengular light which is the light source. the surface is 100% smooth and a material without map.
    Looking forward for suggestions.
    Thx.

That kind of noise could be related to 3 things, so I'll run them down in order of most likely to least (it will depend on your settings). Its possible for the cause to be one of the 3 or a combination of all 3.

      1. The actual sampling of the light is far too which means that there aren't enough samples to have a smooth shadow. If you are using one huge light across a very narrow window (like the Church of Light tutorial), then you may want to either only make the light across that narrow slit. If thats not the case then increasing the subdivisions in the light properties will help. By default its 8, but increasing it to 12 or 16 should help

      2. If you are using QMC for primary bounces then you may want to increase the quality by decreasing the noise level. This could also be smoothed out by adding more subdivisions, especially if you are using Adaptive QMC.

      3. If you have a glossy material on the floor you may want to smooth that out by adding more subdivisions.

Thanks! I'll give this a try and see what I come up with.
