  • Displacement

    Hi.
I have some trouble with the displacement settings. From the manual I know that the multiplier in the displacement settings is responsible for the effect of the displacement. I am working with units in meter, so a multiplier of the map of 0.1 would actually mean an effect of 10 cm for the displacement. But it doesn't show any result while a grass displacement map with multiplier 1.5 looks like it is something around 5cm high, but not 1.5m! Am I misunderstanding something? I also have the problem that there is only randomly a preview of the map available, some times the settings will not be accepted and I have to adjust it again and sometimes when I want to see a preview SU just crashes.

    Re: Displacement

I'm not sure exactly how SU handles units, but it may be possible that SU is only displaying the units as meters. Internal SU may be thinking of units as subset of that specific unit (i.e units are displayed as meters, but may be actually treated as centimeters or millimeters) which would of course throw the multipliers off. The reason I say this is because it may be easier for SU to think of units this way due to accuracy or depending on how they actually calculate geometry. I'll see what I can track down as far as specifics on how SU handles units and see if that sheds any light on to the situation.

      Re: Displacement

Internally in SU it's always inches.
