But personnaly I got a MacPro quad 2.66 (bootcamp W XP). Kind of fast.
But when I use Spanwer to slave a second Macpro, the second one is twice faster than mine.
My advice ? once you go rack you can't come back...
Buy some render beasts and rack them
Basically V-Ray will eat as much as you can feed it, so by the best processor you can for what you can afford. Having as many threads as possible, whether that be multicore processors or multiple processors (or multiple multicore processors), is going to speed things up the most. After that the next big thing is memory. Again you'll want to have as much memory as you can with 1GB being bare bones. Depending on which operating system you use, there may be memory limitations that go allong with that. Start with 2gb and if you find you need more, then thats a discussion for later. Graphics card won't be helpful for rendering, but will of course be useful for working on your model. A standard gaming card (nothing to fancy, but nothing at the bottom of the barrel either) will work just fine. Hope this helps.
That helps out alot actually. I've just upgraded the ram and upgrading the video card as well. So, I guess my next upgrade will have to be the processor down the road. Thanks for all your input.
I'm looking into getting a Quad-Core processor. There are a few types of procesors to choose from. Intel Core 2 Quad and Intel Xeon Quad Core. Which do you recommend?
