  • MODS....please help....skewed textures not rendering properly

I opened the Texture-Mapping_01.skp file from the vray manual scene files.

I tried to apply the brick texture from the SketchUp library to the block using the linked material and then reposition the texture on the top face of the block. The rendering still shows the brick texture in its original diagonal position. I can't make it show in the rendering in any position other than the original.

Any thought why the rendering won't reflect the updated sketchUp texture?

OK, it appears as though we can scale and rotate textures created with image maps and they will render out OK, but as soon as the image gets skewed, it no longer shows in the render as it does on the geometry. Are we just totally unable to render geometry that has a skewed image as a texture?

i have the same problem -or kind of- but with my own textures and it's bump. objects in the same escene with the same material looks different.
my emglish is tooo bad!!. sorry :S

You are manipulating the texture using Sketchup tools? I'm not sure why the changes wouldn't show up but I will try to reproduce this issue. We do definitely have issues with the way uv information is handled in various situations. If you could break down your approach step-by-step it would make my job of tracking and eliminating this issue easier. Thanks

        Joe,

        Thanks for your help.
        • Create a ground plane and a box. Give the ground plane a normal color.
        • Apply a texture that uses an image to one face of the box (I used a standard sketchup brick texture).
        • Render and everything is ok.
        • Reposition the texture by right clicking the box face->texture->position and just pan it to a new position
        • Render and everything looks correct
        • Rotate the texture by rclick the box face->texture->position, grab green pin and spin 90d
        • Render and everything looks correct
        • Scale the texture by rclick the box face->texture->position, grab blue pin and pull
        • Render and everything looks correct
        • Distort the texture by rclick the box face->texture->position, grab yellow pin and pull
        • The rendering has not updated to reflect the distortion.

Re: MODS....please help....skewed textures not rendering properly

I would imagine that the three tools that worked (position, scale and rotation) simply reorient or scale UV space (UV space is like a surfaces XY space). With the skew tool, that actually starts to vary the UV space in a way that V-Ray doesn't interpret. Thats my guess, but maybe Joe can give a little bit more of a solid explanation.
