    Hi, hare to do this, as i find it stupid, but i just cant make this work.
    I dont know how to mak this transcluent material for walls and how to make it more or less transparent. I could not find manual usefull, as in other types of material and settings. I dont know even if i need to have or not difuse layer in material, and i cant make it white or transparent. i would like to use that material with more transparency on curtains too,
    see the picture.
    Also i would like how to make displacement settings for more fuzzy carpet.

    The best material for paper is actually the V-Ray 2-sided material (not the skp 2 sided material). Its pretty simple to use, just make a separate front and a separate back material, then add a 2sided material and assign them as such. Now you can adjust the transparency affect by using the color (grayscale values). There's a little more in depth explanation towards the end of the v-ray manual.

      Yeah, but manual does not say do i have to set those two materials with refraction layer and difuse layer or both of them, an should i check transluency in refraction layer. I tried with both default material with white diffuse layer for both sides with transparency and (or without) refraction an transluency cheked but i cant seem to get on top of the things, and it just does not go white.

      What are te best settings for displacement too, for my carpet, i just cheked displacement texture and give it the map.

      Also, i would like to know why there is no spot light like in rhino, and how to emulate it, i jave seen some renders by mados that have what i want, and i would be thankfull for some explaination on that issue.

        This is the best i could do but there is no translucency enabled in both paper and glass material, glass is pretty good for me, but i am not to much satisfied with paper.

        And as i said i would like to now how to emulate spot light in those lamps on the walls and thing similar to that, i have tried with directional light but it was always to bright and rays would go through the edges of two or more surfaces, and with the rectangular light i could not obtain that either.

          two surfaces on top of the other, with the smaller one with material with displacement



          on the same plane using offset

          and


          only surface with displacement

          Why disp is not showing in the first two, couse i need it to so something like a carpet.

          Im confussed with this.

            Hey! that's my problem too...
            I've got a study-scene with 3 or 4 surfaces with differents materials. Only one of those has a displacement map (ammount in options 1, multiplier 1, 1 units of model = 1m) but in the render the surface is flat as the others



            SO, if i erase all the other surface (other materials) and i relaunch my render, the SAME material has been rendered with displacement



            Why? :'(

                I've sat down and tried to get it to work on several occasions and I can't figure out any exact reason why it works in one situation and not in another. I know it doesn't work well with components or groups, but beyond that I'm not too sure. I've forwarded examples to Joe and he is looking into it. What I've been told in the past is that it relates to how SketchUp stores geometry within the scene and the way we have to access it. Wish I could give you more info, but thats all I've got for right now.

                    Yes - I'm working on the displacement/bump/linked material problems right now. I apologize for the inconvenience. We're aiming for a service release to be out by early October that should have these irritating workflow bugs resolved.
