  • Material Problem...

Sorry to bother u guys again...

I feel like a complete idiot, but I'm stuck yet again. This time I'm having trouble with on of the materials I have created using the material editor. Basically all I have done is taken a default material and assigned a diffuse bitmap to it and a bump map (see attached image: mat_1)

but when i assign this material to an object in SU and render it using Vray it just comes out white (see attached image: white_box). Why?!?!

I thought this may be due to the GI settings but nothing seemed to work.

    Please help!

    Re: Material Problem...

Your trying to apply a texture to the object, which will cause some issues which I will now explain. Textures need UV information, which is basically the x and y direction for a given surface. Without this information textures won't know where place themselves, so they will either show up odd (too small, too large) or not show up at all. In SU, UV information is only created on objects that have a texture applied to them through a SU material. The solution for all this is to make a V-Ray Linked Material. Set up your diffuse layer how you normally would in a SU material. Apply that and place it on your model. The make a linked material from your SU material, apply your bump map (as you have before), and you should be fine.

If you want more info on linked materials, either search the forum, or check out the Training Manual that is in our Downloads section.
