Max rendersize / output

Is there a max settings for rendersize ?

If I render larger than 4000px in width, the image messes up

I've had the same problem but was told to use VRImage. (Under output)
(I've rendered 5500px wide without problem.)
It writes to the harddrive during render so it dont need as much memory to hold the image in the framebuffer. Then convert it to exr with the free conversion tool from the download page.

But is 4000px somekind of limit ? or is there a bug ?
