    HI ALL AGAIN!!

Could someone PLEASE tell me how to get a sky image (external) to appear in renders for the sky? Also how do you insert jpegs, say in tv's or picture frames, and get them to appear instead of nothing! Also with picture frames how can the external jpeg image be set behind glass frame for realism. Any help would be very much appreciated.

PS. If this is already somewhere on the forum could someone point me in the right direction! Cant seem to find it anywhere :'(

    BIGRED

To answer your first(!) question. Go to the environment roll-out and put a jpeg in the envirnment slot - environment - background - (texture editor - set bitmap) - change the uvw to 'environment'.

HDRI work best and there are a number free on the web.

        Re: bitmaps for backgrounds

Hi, I'm having the same problem as BIGRED, i've followed your instructions but still i'm not getting my .jpg to appear in the renders. Why?!?!

        Here's what I did;
        - On the environment rollout I went to Bacground and clicked on the 'M' to take me into material editor.
        - I cahnged the deafault setting from "sky" to "bitmap" and selceted my material "sky.jpg"

        - I then chenged the UVW settings to "environment"

        - When i clciked "update" the material looked fine.

        Have I missed something?

        Please help!

        Thankyou. Ben.

          Re: bitmaps for backgrounds

I'm assuming that your background is just black after you put the jpeg in...yes

Its a problem with the exposure on the physical camera. The sun and sky are very bright, so the camera is set up to expose them properly. Comparatively, the jpgs are very dark, so with the exposure settings for the sky they won't appear at all. Solution...disable the physical camera, increase the multiplier of your jpg (into the thousands), or change the exposure on your camera.

It sounds like you have changed the wrong setting.
It is the 'common' multiplier in the environment texture roll-out that needs setting at about 10000 so that your bitmap shows (when using the physical camera)

                    Re: bitmaps for backgrounds

Further regarding bitmaps, the above instruction helped greatly, but I find that my skys are comming in too big. Is there a way to scale down the image in behind?

You can try setting the 'horizontal' repeats in the environment texture editor to say 3 or 4. You will need to experiment with your particular image. I usually have mapping set to 'sperical'

                      Good Luck
